What to see in one day in Nuevo Baztán?

1.Palace of Goyeneche

It was the official home of the founder of Nuevo Baztán, and it was the most austere building of the entire Baroque complex. It is a two-storey building with a square floor plan that is articulated around a central patio. The most striking feature of the façade is the entrance door, which is decorated with a checkered coat of arms of the Baztán Valley placed between the jaws of a lion. It limits to the left with a tower of four floors and to the right with the Church of San Francisco Javier.

2.Church of San Francisco Javier

It is the other great tourist attraction of Nuevo Baztán, and it is dedicated to the co-patron of Navarra, as it could not be otherwise.

Outside, the massive Baroque portal stands out, flanked by two bell towers topped with Herrerian slate spiers.

Once inside, the main altarpiece stands out, also by José de Churriguera. It is made of red marble.

3. Squares

The Plaza de la Iglesia, commonly known as Plaza Mayor or Plaza del Jardín, is the most significant square in Nuevo Baztán. It is governed by the complex formed by the Goyeneche Palace and the Church of San Francisco Javier, with a succession of two-storey houses that close the U-shaped complex.

Most are currently used for various purposes, such as municipal offices, restaurants and rural residences. The Fountain of the Tritons is located in the middle, surrounded by green trees.

4. Nuevo Baztán Interpretation Center

The Nuevo Baztán Interpretation Center is currently located in the old cellar of the Palacio de Goyeneche. It is a place where we can learn more about the founder and the main architect of the city, two visionaries who built one of the first industrial complexes in the country. It also shows the huge number of factories that were established in the town, such as a glass, textile and fabric, wax, hat, soap, liquor or confectionery plant.

5. Valmores Path

Nature is one of the main attractions of Nuevo Baztán, the starting point of the Senda de Valmores.

It is an easy-to-follow circular path that allows you to explore the ecology of the riverbank as well as the ruins of constructions such as ovens, industries, hermitages and fortifications. Another alternative is to take the Camino de Galiana, which follows part of the route of the Cañada Real Galiana and begins and ends at the Descansadero de la Fuente del Rey.

6.Gastronomy

The roasts and lamb chops are the most emblematic dishes of the Castilian gastronomy of Nuevo Baztán, served with vegetables from the leafy fertile plain of the area and washed down with the local wine, V de Valmores, which has obtained multiple awards. . And you can't miss out on trying some of their traditional sweets, such as repápalos, which are made with wine and cinnamon.

Nuevo Baztán is located in the southeast of the Community of Madrid, about 50km from the city in the natural region of Los Páramos, between the Henares and Tajua valleys, in the area known as "La Alcarria Madrileña", and is distinguished by a high average altitude and a slightly uneven relief, which has resulted in a unique microclimate.
