Unknown but equally dangerous at the wheel. Like the consumption of alcohol and drugs, the taking of certain medications puts the ability of drivers at risk. According to data from the CNAE Foundation, the 5% of traffic accidents in Spain are related to the taking of drugs. From Hnos. Growing concern about drugs and driving

The 25% of people who drive take any medication. Most are unaware of the negative effects that these substances cause during driving. Drugs dangerous to driving that present major contraindications are those used for the treatment of sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, epilepsy or Parkinson's. Negative effects can also be anti-flu, anesthetics and analgesics, both for pain and for allergies. To avoid risking health at the wheel, the DGT recommends always asking the doctor or the pharmacist.

Another way to identify dangerous drugs for driving is to consult the packaging itself. Since 2007, and by means of a Royal Decree, the obligation to sign on the outside of the box was established, using a icon, the warning about possible adverse effects while driving.

6 of the 15 drugs most sold in Spain affect driving, according to the National Health System. These include Metamizole Sodium, Lorazepam, Metformin, Tramadol, Alprazolam or Lormetazepam.
