The Quijote route starts in Madrid

We love the road and organize coach trips from Madrid for our clients. That's why, in Hermanos Montoya, we want to propose an original Don Quixote route with an exit in Madrid. Although the Tourist Board of Castilla-La Mancha proposes a route of 2.500 kilometers and 148 municipalities, we are going with something lighter and more significant.

First stop: Alcalá de Henares.

Our Don Quixote route starts in Madrid and does it with a first stop in Alcalá de Henares. This is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, considered the maximum figure of Spanish literature and compared to the very Shakespeare. In Alcalá de Henares, in addition to its historic center, we can visit the house-museum where the illustrious writer was born.

To Campo de Criptana

From Alcalá we went to Toledo with the Alcázar always omnipresent. Toledo impresses by the mixture of cultures. Arabs, Jews and Christians lived there for a long time. The footprint left can be admired in many monuments.

But the trip has only just begun. We put the route to the epicenter of the Quixotic route entering Ciudad Real, to reach Campo de Criptana. Here we will find to the Don Quixote Giants in the Sierra de los Molinos. 10 windmills, all with their name and intended for a specific use. The mills Infanto, Sardinero, Burleta they are the only ones that preserve their original structure and machinery. The rest, just as beautiful, contain other contents: Culebro, Poyatos, Inca Garcilaso, Cariari, Pylon, Quimera and finally Lizard. In addition, we can not stop visiting the Albacín, Criptana neighborhood near the Sierra de los Molinos, where we will find the Poyatos windmill, the only one that is inside the city.

The route of Don Quixote continues to El Toboso

At about 18 kilometers from Campo de Criptana you will find The Toboso. Everyone knows that Dulcinea, the love of Don Quixote, was from this town. And here we can visit the Cervantino museum. But, depending on the time and the program, we can know much more: the Corral de Comedias de Almagro, the Campos de Calatrava or the Medrano cave where Miguel de Cervantes was imprisoned.

This Don Quixote route starts in Madrid and also ends. An example of excursions, departing in the capital, which can be done in both minibuses and e buses Montoya Brothers.
